Officials say a night of drinking left a mother and son injured, and two men under arrest.
Toms River police say officers and paramedics responded to Haines Road and Cedar Drive early Friday morning for reports of a fight.
When they arrived, they found a mother and her 18-year-old son on the ground, surrounded by a large crowd. Investigators say that some in the group had been drinking in Bayville since Thursday. By 11:30 p.m., some of the group came to Toms River and continued drinking by the river.
Police say a fight broke out at around 1 a.m. Chad Andresen, 18, from Beachwood allegedly sucker-punched the 18-year-old son in the back of the head and knocked him to the ground. The victim was knocked unconscious.
When the teen's mother tried to intervene, another man, 18-year-old John Shevlino, also from Beachwood, allegedly punched her and threw her to the ground. He also supposedly kicked her in the face, breaking her jaw.
Both teens ran away. Shevlino was found a short time later and was arrested. Andresen was able to escape, but turned himself in to Monmouth County authorities Friday afternoon.
Both have been charged with aggravated assault.
