“The snow was in my way. He fell in the snow,” Chase said.
Just over 63% of students attended class, although final attendance numbers will be released Wednesday, according to Schools Chancellor Kamar Samuels. Some parents were also unhappy with the decision to reopen.
“I think it should be closed today, but it’s open. Because it’s hard to pick the kids up right now,” said Maggie.
On Monday, the president of the United Federation of Teachers said he disagreed with the decision to open schools and that the union would support teachers who felt they could not make it in. On Tuesday, Mayor Zohran Mamdani said about 1,200 teachers called out and more than 5,000 substitute teachers filled in.
