As cleanup efforts continue across Paterson following this week's blizzard, a group of young men is stepping up to help senior citizens in need.
Driveway by driveway, the group cleared snow and dug out cars for elderly residents who were unable to do the work themselves.
The effort is part of the “Options and Opportunities” program, which provides participants with community service opportunities and trade school training.
For 91-year-old Ralph Webster, the help was deeply appreciated.
“They did a beautiful job,” he said.
Participants like Quadaire say the experience is just as rewarding for them.
“It really feels great seeing old people smile, just seeing everybody smile,” he said
The mayor says the program’s work continues beyond the winter months. During the summer, participants visit senior sites to repair benches, complete paint projects and learn carpentry skills.
