A guard at Fort Hamilton army base in Brooklyn called Immigration and Customs Enforcement on a pizza deliveryman from Ecuador who made a delivery to the fort on Friday.
Ecuadorean immigrant Pablo Villavicencio is now in ICE custody in New Jersey pending removal from the country.
According to ICE spokeswoman Rachael Yong Yow, Villavicencio was detained by military police officers and turned over to immigration agents.
Villavicencio had delivered pizza to the base many times, but according to his wife, Sandra Chica, the guard called ICE after her husband couldn't produce a driver's license when he tried to make the delivery.
Chica says her husband was a hard-working father and his treatment was "inhuman."
She also says Villavicencio called her and said he's being threatened with deportation.
Immigration officials say eight years ago, he was granted what's known as "voluntary departure" by a judge.
But he never left.
Instead, he stayed in the U.S. well beyond a deadline.
His wife and two daughters all are U.S. citizens.
