'Tis the season for holiday cheer and helping others.

Gov-elect Mikie Sherrill joined a food distribution event Thursday morning in West Orange to help people who are food insecure.

Residents got to participate and volunteer in the festive event and spread holiday cheer. Forty meals were included in each box of nonperishable items.

Sherill talked about the rise in inflation.

"As we work to drive down costs here in New Jersey, families don't feel quite as food insecure," said Sherrill. "I spoke to thousands and thousands of New Jerseyans and they are feeling the pressure from the tariffs from inflation. I think they're well aware that all of this is going on, [President Donald] Trump and his family are enriching themselves so that dichotomy is really upsetting to people across the state," she said.

Sherrill will be inaugurated Jan. 20 in Newark.
