An Essex County man whom Gov. Chris Christie called a bum and a communist on the radio is explaining to News 12 New Jersey why he decided to call into Christie’s radio show.

Mike Goldstein, a.k.a. “Mike from Montclair,” says that he is a regular caller to sports radio host Mike Francesa’s WFAN show. He says that he wasn’t thrilled when he heard Christie would be filling in for Francesa.

Goldstein says that he decided to make his own call when he heard the governor get aggressive with his first critical caller.

“I saw and I listened for the first hour and got a little nauseated in listening to him so it prompted me to call,” he says.

Goldstein called out Christie for taking his family to Island Beach State Park during the government shutdown when state beaches were closed to the public.

“Next time you want to sit on a beach that's closed to the entire world except you; you put your fat a** in a car and go to one that's open to all your constituents,” Goldstein said.

Christie called him a “bum” and then hung up on him. The governor then said that he loved “talking to communists from Montclair.” Many of the calls Christie took Monday were in fact from Montclair.

“I don’t really care about his politics. I care about the fact that he’s just not a nice person,” Goldstein says. “He is a bully. He’s bullied people ever since he’s been in office and he continues to do so. I guess I’m a little resentful that we as taxpayers are paying his bill while he’s auditioning for a sports show in New York City.”

Christie was filling in for Francesa as an audition to see if he could take the position full-time. Goldstein says that if this happens, he won’t be calling in again.

“Don’t quit your day job, and he still has a day job,” Goldstein says.

Christie will be in office until January 2018.
