Sen. Bob Menendez told fellow Democratic senators on Capitol Hill Thursday afternoon that he will not resign from office amid his latest corruption indictment.
“I will continue to cast votes on behalf of the people of New Jersey, as I have for 18 years,” Menendez told reporters, “And I’m sure when they need those votes, they’ll be looking forward for me to cast those votes.”
Sen. Joe Manchin told reporters following the Senate luncheon that Menendez spoke for 15 minutes and did not address whether he will run for reelection, according to The Hill.
Menendez did not take questions, Manchin said.
Menendez and his wife Nadine were indicted Friday on bribery, fraud and extortion charges.
They both pleaded not guilty Wednesday in Manhattan. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York says the senator is expected back in court on Monday for a status conference.
