In West New York sits a grade school named after Sen. Robert Menendez - a decision that might seem regretful given his recent indictment on charges of allegedly accepting bribes.
But if you think officials in North Hudson would rename the school or regret the name in any way, one needs to travel two miles south to Union City, where Menendez began his political career as mayor. There sits the William Musto Cultural Center - named in 2011 after the late mayor who went to prison on corruption charges decades earlier. In Menendez's home political turf nothing, it may seem sometimes, is disqualifying.
On today's "Brian's Positively New Jersey,” Brian Donohue visits several locations that illustrate the level at which transactional politics are an accepted way of life in New Jersey - especially Hudson County.
And he discusses how Menendez's adherence to that way of working has resulted in an indictment that reads like a movie script that combines “American Hustle” with “Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle." Yet another embarrassing Jersey joke that contains an all too painful level of truth.
