The family and friends of murdered Neptune City teen Sarah Stern say that they plan to hold a memorial in her honor, despite the fact that Stern’s body has not been found.
The memorial is expected to take place Saturday at the Neptune City Center. Organizers say that it is important to honor Stern, even though there hasn’t been any closure in the case yet.
Prosecutors allege that Stern was killed by former friend and high school classmate Liam McAtasney in December 2016 in a plot to steal thousands of dollars from her. McAtasney and another friend, Preston Taylor, allegedly threw Stern’s body off a bridge into the Shark River.
McAtasney’s attorney said Monday that McAtasney would not accept a plea deal and will go to trial.
Taylor has already pleaded guilty to helping to cover up the crime. He is expected to testify against McAtasney.
