A measles outbreak in Brooklyn continues to spread after passengers from Israel with the disease traveled throughout the tri-state area.
Six children below the age of five were diagnosed this week in the borough.
Five passengers had traveled from Tel Aviv to Newark Airport back on Sept. 28.
One of them had spent time at the Lifetime Athletic gym in Montvale on Oct. 5 from about 8:30 a.m. to noon.
Between Oct. 4 and 11, the person traveled quite a bit through Rockland County and Westchester County in New York and in Montvale.
There are also 11 cases in Rockland County.
Health officials are working to confirm another three suspected cases.
According to officials, people who have been to any of the areas in the last two weeks could still develop symptoms.
Measles is an airborne disease and highly contagious. People who have not been vaccinated can develop symptoms that seem at first like a common cold, followed by a rash.
The symptoms appear usually about 10-12 days after exposure, but can appear as early as a week before and as late as three weeks after.
If you think you may have been infected, you are asked to call ahead and let your doctor or clinic know before you visit.
