Former Governor McGreevey and his estranged wife were in family court Friday to discuss custody and child care issues during their divorce.
Their joint appearance is the first time McGreevey and Dina Matos-McGreevey have been seen together in public since she stood at his side during his announcement he was gay.
Their lawyers spent some time behind closed doors before the judge issued some advice. Judge Karen Cassidy told the two to use common sense when it comes to their 5-year-old daughter. She urged McGreevey and Matos-McGreevey to set aside their differences and concentrate on what is best for their daughter.
Cassidy also made it clear that she does not want to micro-manage the child?s life. She added that the girl should not be exposed to any non-age appropriate materials.
The two will now continue to have joint custody of the 5-year-old. They will also have to use the services of a parenting coordinator to help them resolve issues, such as visitation timetables.
The judge made it clear that McGreevey?s homosexuality is not and will not be a factor in the proceedings.
