Entrepreneurs in Hoboken and Jersey City who are veterans, disabled, or members of the LGBT community will be able to get a hand at growing their businesses.
Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla and Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop signed joint executive orders Wednesday that will include these business owners in city contracts and procurements. It’s the same status already available to women- and minority-owned businesses.
Other benefits include leadership training, scholarships and help with development.
“Anyone who wants to take advantage of these opportunities, if you're LGBT get certified by the National LGBT Chamber of Commerce. If you're a disability owner, get certified by Disability In, and there are multiple groups out there that can certify a veteran owned business,” says Jonathan Lovitz, with the National LGBT Chamber of Commerce.
These are the first two cities in New Jersey to enact this policy, according to the National LGBT Chamber of Commerce.
