The refurbishment of Paterson’s Hinchliffe Stadium is about halfway done.
Officials returned to the field on Monday to mark the one-year anniversary of when crews broke ground on a major cleanup and remodeling effort.
Hinchliffe Stadium was built in 1932 and played a significant part in Negro league baseball.
But years of underfunding meant the city had to shut it down in 1997.
The restorations will make the space fit for local sports and community activities.
Mayor Andre Sayegh says the stadium will be done by the end of the year.
