Familiar faces will remain on the job as Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani is set to be inaugurated as the next mayor of New York City on Jan. 1.

Mamdani announced four reappointments who will work alongside him in City Hall. Dr. Mitchell Katz will be renominated to the board of directors for reappointment as the president and CEO of NYC Health + Hospitals. Dr. Katz has served in this position since 2017 when he was first appointed. During his time at the helm, Mamdani says he has expanded access to health care services, including the creation of NYC Care, and oversaw the agency during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Jason Graham will keep his role as the chief medical examiner, where he will continue to work with leaders in all levels of government to combat the opioid crisis.

Other reappointments include Michael Garner, who will remain as the chief business diversity officer in the Mayor’s Office of Minority and Women Owned Business. Garner was the first to be appointed to the role that was created in 203 by the Adams administration.

Garner previously spent 14 years as the chief diversity and inclusion officer at the MTA.

Mir Bashar will remain in the Office of the Mayor as the chief administrative officer. Bashar will continue to oversee administrative work such as finances, budgets and contracts. Bashar also served in the de Blasio administration, where he worked as the senior director of budget and financial planning.

“These reappointments reflect my commitment to steady, experienced leadership that delivers real results for New Yorkers,” said Mamdani.

No appointments have been made to several key positions including NYC school chancellor. The position is currently held by Melissa Aviles-Ramos.

Mamdani will be sworn in at midnight on Jan. 1 by Attorney General Letitia James in a private ceremony at Old City Hall station. The public will be invited to attend a block party after a public inauguration ceremony at 1 p.m.
