Schools from around New Jersey took part in the Read Across America program Friday, including one that is trying something a bit different.
Two years ago, the media specialist at Manasquan schools decided to shake things up for Read Across America. They decided to put on a play.
Now, they are in the third year of putting on a production, led by language arts teacher Andrea Trischetta, as eighth-graders perform for the elementary school.
"It's very exciting because Andrea has a real gift for it, the kids dance, she writes lyrics to sing that we know they all want to be a part of it," says media specialist Oriana Kopec.
Each year, the show focuses on the importance and benefits of reading. This year, they put on a version of “The Grinch” that involves the protagonists enjoying reading.
