Jones Beach is packed between the air show practice session and people seeking ways to be outside for the long weekend while also staying cool.

The parking lot at Field 6, for example, was full earlier this morning.

Rows and rows of chairs, umbrellas and coolers lined the beach.

With almost no clouds today, the sun was beating down, but the beach offered the opportunity for people to pick up a nice breeze and swim in the ocean to cool down.

State parks officials have a water station near the Central Mall to make sure people are staying hydrated throughout their stay.

If you're out today, make sure you're seeking shade and take breaks indoors with the air conditioning when possible, drink more water than you think you need to replenish your body and keep the strenuous activity to a minimum.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced extended hours at state swimming and cooling facilities and other state parks during the current heat wave to help New Yorkers beat the heat.

On Long Island today, that includes:

  • Jones Beach – Field 6, Central Mall, Field 2 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

  • Jones Beach – West Bathhouse from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

  • Robert Moses State Park – Fields 2, 3, and 5 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

  • Sunken Meadow State Park – Main Beach from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

  • Hither Hills State Park from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

  • Wildwood State Park from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
