The lawyer of a Brick woman who allegedly exploited a computer glitch to ship thousands of dollars’ worth of merchandise to her home for free says she is just very savvy at spotting deals.
County prosecutors say 40-year-old Kimy Velazquez and his 24-year-old wife, Romela Velazquez, of Ocean County, stole enough items from the Lowe’s hardware store to fill an 18-foot trailer.
Police say that the couple also allegedly stole items from Victoria’s Secret and Home Depot. The items ranged from a gazebo to $2,500 worth of underwear.
Authorities say the Brick residents tried to get about $258,068 worth of unpaid merchandise overall, but received only about $13,000 in merchandise.
Authorities declined to provide details on the computer glitch, but say that it involved the use of legitimate gift cards.
Meanwhile, Romela Velazquez's attorney, Jef Henninger, said in a statement to NJ.com that she has learned to spot good deals.
