Some New Jersey lawmakers have resurrected a plan to extend the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail line into Bergen County.

New Jersey Senate President Steve Sweeney and other lawmakers announced their plans to use some of the revenue generated by the recent gas tax hike to pay for the extension.

The project will add 8 miles of track, stretching the line from Jersey City to Englewood. This will be the first time Bergen County will get light rail service.

"It's going to be an enormous economic benefit to people of the region," says Sen. Sweeney. "It's going to improve commutes, provide opportunities to get on a train to New York and open up the economy in this part of Bergen County."

Sen. Sweeney says he and other lawmakers expect nearby towns to see revitalization, with an increase in home values. More jobs are also expected to help build and maintain the infrastructure.
