6h agoA wildfire that broke out in Ocean County on Tuesday is about 75% contained, according to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service.
The fire was first reported in Manchester Township. Officials say that it consumed 3,859 acres of land.
"We are under a special enhanced fire weather statement today because we’ve been having low humidity and having gusty winds today - up to 23 mph,” says State Fire Warden Greg McLaughlin. “Temperatures are rising up close to 80 degrees and what that does is ripen the vegetation in the forest and make it more susceptible to burning.”

Crews battled 200-foot flames, flying embers and a rapidly spreading fire that threatened more than 150 homes and buildings at its peak. The homes were located in Manchester Township and neighboring Lakehurst.
“It was smoky, it was crazy. Trucks everywhere, people everywhere but you can't see anybody through the smoke,” says Kathleen Kane, who has to evacuate her home due to the fire.
Multiple roads were closed in the area for a time. But all remaining closures were lifted at 9 p.m., officials said.
No injuries were reported due to the fire.
