Kane In Your Corner investigations are now getting results for a number of New Jersey residents, ranging from homeowners in Ocean County, an injured police recruit in Newark and a school district in Essex County.

Joe Soranno is one of about a dozen Ocean County residents who had sewer pipes broken as a result of underground power lines installed last summer by JCP&L. Both the utility and its subcontractor, Delaware Valley Utility Contractors, had refused to pay, claiming the local sewer authority inadequately marked the location of the lines.

Kane In Your Corner found the sewer authority had done its job. The utility contractor recently began sending checks to the homeowners to cover repairs.

"Walt Kane really brought this to a head," Soranno said. "I couldn't get anywhere with these people until it was viewed on television."

A Newark police recruit injured in the line of duty is headed back to the police academy after Kane In Your Corner exposed her dilemma.

Andy Santana broke her hip during academy training. At her sergeant's suggestion, she applied for a medical deferment to attend a future academy class, but when she recovered, she was told it was too late. The New Jersey Civil Service Commission said that Santana's hiring list had expired, so she had to start the application process from the beginning, which could take years.

The Newark Police Department has now apparently worked out the problem. Santana says she's been invited to rejoin the police academy next month.

The Belleville School District has filed a $1.4 million lawsuit against its former technology provider, Clarity Technologies Inc. The district hired Clarity to install a new technology and security system.

The school board now says that Clarity overcharged them and failed to back up the system, resulting in a huge loss of data. Last year, Kane In Your Corner looked into numerous irregularities in the Clarity contract.
