Crews are working Thursday to repair a water main break that has wreaked havoc throughout Kearny.
The 13-inch water main break occurred along a railroad line between Kearny Ave. and Passaic Ave. Both main roadways are closed as a result of the break, along with dozens of side streets. Police and emergency management officials say crews are working to get things under control as quickly as possible. They say 10 homes were also affected by the break.
Officials say they hope to have Passaic Ave. reopened by Friday, however, Kearny Ave. will remain closed throughout the weekend. Officials have not yet determined what caused the more than 70-year-old water main to rupture.
