Business along the Jersey Shore picked up this holiday weekend, but still fell far below levels before the coronavirus pandemic.
Business owners in Asbury Park on Sunday said they were just happy to see people out and about at the beach and boardwalk.
The crowds throughout the day were a relief to business owners because on the last holiday, Memorial Day, the weather was bad and the shore was a ghost town.
Business owners credit outdoor seating being permissable, the warmer weather and people starting to feel more comfortable going out.
And while business at the shore is certainly improving, businesses are still struggling.
The Wonder Bar said they are only doing about 25% of their normal business.
"It is tough. It's going to be tough I think for a long time, but we'll just work around it. We've work with limited staff, we all work together as a team, and we just do what we have to do because this is the new world we are in right now," said Debbie Delisa, manager of Wonder Bar.
Businesses had really hoped indoor seating would be permitted by now, which would have helped their bottom line, but Gov. Murphy tabled that because of the growing coronavirus cases across the country.
But all in all, business owners said they were thrilled to see people out and about and spending money this holiday weekend.
