The Jersey Shore was chock-full of revelers this Fourth of July weekend as many came out despite cloudy skies, heavy fog and rain.
The holiday weekend is traditionally considered an economic indicator for the summer season. Mark Halland, manager of Jenkinson's Boardwalk, was encouraged by what he saw.
"Traffic count on the boardwalk Thursday and Friday evening was outstanding,? he says. ?Better than I've probably ever seen."
Kate Feeney and her daughter did not allow the haze and cooler-than-normal temperatures to alter their plans.
"It's never gonna keep me from the Jersey Shore - we're down here all summer,? Feeney says. ?We love it down here."
Tom Blesing, of Wayne, says the escalating prices of flights and gas persuaded him and his family to vacation closer to home.
"Fuel is a lot so we decided to rent a house for a week and save some money," he says.
Halland says this year's figures so far are steady with last summer - and possibly even higher.
