A team of lifeguards from Monmouth County shore towns has captured the national lifeguarding championship, defeating dozens of other teams from around the U.S.
The Long Branch Ocean Rescue members outran, outswam and out paddled teams from Delaware and Los Angeles County over the weekend to win the prestigious Howard Lee trophy in Virginia Beach.
Beating 46-time national champion Los Angeles County was a significant feat for the New Jersey guards.
This marks Monmouth County's third national lifeguarding title.
