A first responder from the Jersey Shore is being honored for saving the life of a mother and daughter.
Bobby Selfridge was awarded the Carnegie Medal for saving a mother and her 4-year-old daughter after their boat capsized in the Barnegat Inlet in August 2022.
Selfridge swam under the boat and found the pair in an 18-inch air pocket. He swam them out to safety.
The Barnegat Light Volunteer Company calls Selfridge the epitome of a first responder. The Carnegie Hero Fund awards individuals who risk their own life or limb and go above and beyond to save another life.
