It’s a strange football season at Monmouth University. For the first time in the history of the Hawks, coach Kevin Callahan isn’t on the sidelines.

After 33 years as the only head coach the program has ever known, Callahan retired last December. On Saturday, he will receive an honor: Monmouth will rename its home field Kevin Callahan Field.

There wouldn’t be a Monmouth football program without Callahan. He built it from the ground up in 1993, turning an idea into a program.

Over 33 seasons, Callahan led the Hawks to 197 victories and playoff appearances

For the man who gave Monmouth football its identity, it’s a fitting tribute.
