Lt. Gov. Dale Caldwell is under internal investigation over allegations of inappropriate behavior with women and possible ethics violations, according to a report from the New Jersey Globe.
The report stated that there weren't many details about any specific allegations.
News 12 reached out to Gov. Mikie Sherrill’s office for more information.
"The Governor would take any reports of inappropriate behavior or misconduct extremely seriously and expects our public officials to hold themselves to the highest standards. We cannot confirm or deny potential personnel matters,” senior advisor Sean Higgins wrote in a statement.
News 12 also spoke to New Jersey GOP Chairwoman Christine Giordano about the situation.
"This is not just a personnel matter. This is the lieutenant governor and Secretary of State of New Jersey. This is not just a staff member... During the investigation, the lieutenant governor really should step aside while this is going on,” she said.
The Globe reports that former New Jersey Attorney General Christopher Porrino was brought in to conduct the investigation.
