(04/10/06) JERSEY CITY ? Immigrant workers in Jersey City joined thousands of others throughout the United States in a call against proposed legislation in Washington.
Thousands gathered in Liberty State Park shouting ?si se puede,? or ?yes we can? during the rally. Demonstrators say bills being discussed in D.C. treat immigrant workers like criminals. According to protesters, undocumented workers are simply in the country to make a better life for themselves.
In addition to undocumented workers, several legal citizens who earned their citizenship joined the demonstration to support immigrants in the U.S. The citizens said they want undocumented workers to receive opportunities in America.
