It is less than a month away from the start of the NFL season, and the New York Jets training camp is getting into full swing.
The New York Jets took the practice field Tuesday in Florham Park, and one player that stood out at 6’7’’ and almost 370 pounds was 2020 first round draft pick, Mekhi Becton.
“It's been great, I've been picking up on the playbook faster since we're on the field now so it's been great and I've been having fun and I've been able to hit people,” says Becton. “I haven't hit a person in a while, so it's been great.
Becton says one of the biggest adjustments from Louisville to the pros has been the speed of the game.
“My technique has got to be good, I'm in the league now, I'm not in college no more, so I know my technique has to be perfect,” says Becton.
With no preseason games this year, head coach Adam Gase is trying to figure out ways to get the team ready for when action starts next month.
“We'll have something where we go to the stadium and test the atmosphere out, understanding it more than just on the field, in the locker room, how we'll use the box, all that stuff, we have to go through all these procedures because it's different than what it's been in the past,” says Gase.
Becton says offensive line veterans have been a big help, and he's excited about his new teammates.
“I just look at those guys in awe, I've seen Frank Gore playing while I was growing up, so it's just great to be in the same huddle with him, so it's just amazing having those two guys behind me,” says Becton.
The Jets open up Sunday, Sept. 13 in Buffalo.
