Two construction workers were injured Thursday morning when the upper section of a house under construction collapsed, trapping the workers inside.

The collapse happened on Bayview Avenue in Long Beach Township. The upper floor of the home gave way and the men were unable to get out in time.

“We extracted two victims off the back second floor of the residence. Those victims were transferred to EMS and transported to a trauma center,” says Ship Bottom Fire Lt. Michael Essig.

The extent of the workers’ injuries was not immediately made clear.

Bayview Avenue was closed for a time during the investigation.
