Residents of Oakland were back in their homes Tuesday evening after a bomb scare kept them out overnight.
Federal agents descended on 82 Seminole Ave. Monday night and said they recovered an explosive device.
Agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives say they went to the house after monitoring what they called suspicious activity on social-networking Web sites MySpace and YouTube.
News 12 New Jersey has learned that the suspects, 19- and 18-year-old brothers, may have posted information online indicating they had enough materials in their house to make an explosive device.
ATF agents took the materials to a nearby park and detonated them away from any residences.
An ATF spokesman says agents found black powder, smokeless powder and another material they are testing.
The spokesman would not disclose what the material is called. However, one county official who is also a police officer says it is very dangerous.
"The only thing I was told by police was that this was the same type of material used in the Madrid bombing,? says Bergen County Freeholder Tomas Padilla.
The two brothers are not suspected of terrorist activity, officials say.
They were both taken into custody, charged with possession of a destructive device and later released. They could face federal charges.
