Some customers are fearing they could lose money instead of pounds with the closing of Pure Weight Loss.
The company says competitors like Jenny Craig are forcing the weight loss center to shut its doors. Customers like Amy Wojaczyk say they've already forked over cash for supplements and services and could lose hundreds of dollars.
"I've spent probably about $1,200 so far," says Wojaczyk. "I invested another $340 the Monday after Thanksgiving in supplements that I may or may not see."
Pure Weight Loss says any member who ordered supplements has until January 4 to pick them up. Wojaczyk disputes that claim, saying the shelves were already bare at her local center before she could pick up her purchases.
Commercials for the company were being aired a day prior to the announcement that it was closing. Wojaczyk feels victimized by the company's continued advertising. "I find it hard to believe that they didn't know this last week or the week before when I gave them another $340? I think it's not fair."
The manager at East Brunswick's center told News 12 New Jersey she's been informed that refunds are going to be made available.
