A benefit concert to raise money for hurricane Maria, Irma and Harvey victims was held Thursday evening at the Strand Theater in Lakewood.
Concertgoers paid $20 to view nine bands perform. All of the money collected will go directly to hurricane relief. It was an effort put together by theater management.
Strand manager Lori Davis says that she got the idea for the benefit due to her friends who are in Puerto Rico and lost everything they had to the storm.
“I had to do something. I think we all should,” she says. “Everyone needs to come together, especially when there’s a tragedy like this.”
Recovery work continues in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria devastated the island. Puerto Rican Gov. Ricard Rossello was at the White House Thursday to meet with President Donald Trump.
Rossello says that 42 roadways were destroyed by Maria, along with 250,000 homes. He asked that the president make sure his people are treated the same as those in Texas or Florida.
"Of course FEMA is there for the initial response. There is some rebuilding…we are thankful the president is supporting these petitions to Congress,” Rossello said.
The musicians that performed at the benefit concert include The Soul Cruisers, NRG and the Bew Crew Group. All the money collected will go to Convoy of Hope.
