Cancer survivors, family members and volunteers gathered in Liberty State Park today for the 11th annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure to raise awareness about breast cancer.
The morning began with a 5K race and fun run where people had the option of having their run timed.
Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop was the event's honorary chair and led the procession. He also fielded a team for the fun run.
The Survivors' Walk also took place, where cancer survivors and their loved ones walked together in solidarity and celebration.
After the procession, there was a rally with the survivors where choirs sang and speakers talked about the importance of breast cancer research.
Proceeds from the event go to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation, which is dedicated to breast cancer research and awareness.
