Major infrastructure changes are coming to waterfront communities in Hudson County, which should mean less flooding.
Officials broke ground on Thursday for the Rebuild by Design Project. The project stretches from Hoboken to Weehawken and Jersey City. The $230 million federal project should prevent massive flood damage, especially in urban housing developments.
"We’re always becoming stronger and more resilient because we are combating the impacts of climate change. Thankfully with today and the eventual completion of our Rebuild by Design project, Hoboken will become one, if not the most, resilient coastal communities in the United States of America,” said Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla.
The project will create barriers along the coast and restore green infrastructure to protect the environment while protecting homes and businesses from flooding.
