How safe is your child when you send them off to school in the morning? News 12 is looking at data showing the number of reported incidents involving school transportation vehicles.
Since 2020, a reported incident happens on average at least once a day. That's according to the numbers provided by the state.
In the 2020-2021 school year, there were 270 incidents involving school transportation vehicles. There have been 114 incidents this year. The vast majority show collisions with other vehicles.
Out of those 270 incidents during the last full school year, Ocean County recorded the highest numbers at 42 – nearly double the amount over the next highest county of Atlantic, which saw 24 incidents.
The data does not indicate the cause of the collision, who was at fault or if anyone was injured.
