With temperatures climbing close to 90 degrees and sunshine filling the Jersey Shore, hundreds of people headed to Point Pleasant Beach this week to enjoy an early taste of summer.

Even though Memorial Day weekend - which many call the unofficial start of the summer season - is still days away, the unusually warm conditions brought many out of their offices and away from home for an impromptu shore day.

“It’s the first nice beach day after the school year ended, so we’re out here trying to get tan, trying to catch some sun,” said Luciana, who was visiting from Pennsylvania.

“We thought maybe we’d go to the city,” said Lynn Fanelli. “And I’m like, no, let’s go to the Jersey Shore. It’s much better.”

While swimming remains off-limits without lifeguards on duty, visitors found plenty of other ways to enjoy the beach and beat the heat.

“We’re just enjoying the weather,” Fanelli said. “Maybe play some Skee-Ball in the arcade and things that we did from when we were kids.”
