Congressmembers inspecting Delaney Hall say nothing has changed for the better
Three New Jersey congressman member inspected Delaney Hall. The visit was prompted by a letter signed by 300 detainees complaining of cruel treatment at the immigrant detention center.

After a two-hour inspection of Delaney Hall in Newark, three Congress members revealed to members of the media waiting outside, that immigrant detainees are still not being properly fed nor are they getting the medical care they need.
These are the same concerns that have been heard since the facility opened one year ago. Today's inspection was prompted after the so-called “S-O-S” letter signed by 300 detainees inside of Delaney Hall, complaining of conditions.
Since it opened, Democratic Reps. Rob Menendez and LaMonica McIver have wanted it shutdown.
They were back at the facility Monday.
McIver argues Delaney Hall is only open as a means to make money for those tied to the Trump administration. She explained there are those inside who have signed off on being deported as soon as possible yet continue to be he held without explanation.
“People who have signed a self deportation letter are still here waiting to be deported. Why? It’s about money it’s about greed it’s about this president breaking the law and getting his friends and buddies rich and rich and rich," said Rep. McIver.
Menendez and McIver were joined by Representative Analilia Mejia who was especially concerned about medical treatment for those inside. She met with a pregnant woman complained of pain and a man who suffered a head wound in a fall who obviously needed proper medical attention.
Menendez insists those inside are not criminals.
"For the administration to even try to say it’s about the worst of the worst, has long been proven a lie sold to the American people in 2024," said Rep. Menendez.
McIver, Reps. Menendez and Mejia had a chance to speak with over 60 detainees.
News 12 reached out to ICE for a comment on conditions within Delaney Hall.
