More than 30 volunteers worked tirelessly Sunday to fix up a home in Teaneck to be donated to a family facing foreclosure.
The group, known as the Bonim Brothers, arranged for a family of six to move into the vacant home rent-free for two years. The home is on loan from a New Jersey family who donated the structure while they aren?t using it. The owners, and the future occupants, would like to remain anonymous.
The Bonim Brothers is affiliated with the Jewish organization United Jewish Appeal (UJA) Federation of Northern New Jersey. Bonim means ?builder? in Hebrew. One volunteer, 15-year-old Etana Staiman, says the project is important to the community and shows how neighbors can help each other in a time of need.
"It could be anyone,? Staiman says. ?And I think it's really worthwhile and it means so much to anyone. It just takes up part of my Sunday, but it changes their lives."
The Bonim Brothers usually take on one new project each month.
