A Monmouth County community on Friday honored soldiers who were killed or went missing while serving the nation.
A remembrance ceremony was held at the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans' Memorial in Holmdel. The ceremony honored prisoners of war, those missing in action and Gold Star Mothers.
The Gold Star Mothers organization provides support to mothers who have lost children in the line of duty. The president of New Jersey's chapter tells News 12 New Jersey that it is sad to see supporters dwindling at events like this.
"The crowds do get smaller, the participation gets smaller. Until we're in another war, then things will start up all over again," says Judy Tapper.
Tapper's son David was killed in Afghanistan in 2003. He was a Navy SEAL.
