Hoboken officials say they are getting ready for Isaias now before it heads up the coast to the tri-state area.
Their main concern is flooding. Just last week, there were damages caused by floodwaters after a torrential rain storm. They fear more flooding could be coming to Hoboken if Isaias maintains its strength.
The Office of Emergency Management says they are putting up no parking signs and barricades near flood-prone intersections. They are also asking people to take down outdoor tents and secure any items on property or balconies.
Isaias has already been destructive in the Caribbean: On Thursday, while still a tropical storm, it uprooted trees, destroyed crops and homes and caused widespread flooding and small landslides in the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. One man died in the Dominican Republic. In Puerto Rico, the National Guard rescued at least 35 people from floodwaters that swept away one woman, whose body was recovered Saturday.
