A Hoboken hair salon is making sure everyone gets a chance to express themselves as a part of Hoboken Pride Week.
Hair Cult Salon and Spa offered free haircuts to the LGBTQ community so that they could get a hairstyle that they feel fits themselves. The owner says the message behind the move is all about embracing diversity.
"Whether it's male, female or if they're fluid…it's very important for us to be well-aware of that so we can connect with them,” says owner Laurie Michelson.
Hoboken resident Veronika Paprocka was one of the patrons who took advantage of the offer. She says that she was grateful to the effort.
“An event that provided something to the LGBTQ community, not just put a rainbow on something,” she says.
Hair Cult worked with the organization the Dress Code Project to hold the event.
