A long-running construction project outside the PATH station in Hoboken has dealt a heavy blow to a local business, forcing staff cutbacks due to a steep decline in foot traffic.

The general manager of Joboken Cafe, located on Hudson Place, reports that ongoing upgrades to the roadway and a water main replacement have severely impacted daily operations.

For weeks, the street and a majority of the sidewalk directly in front of the cafe have remained closed off to the public.

The drop in pedestrian traffic near the busy transit hub has hurt revenue enough to force management to cut employee shifts.

Seeking support, the business posted about their struggles on social media. The general manager noted that the local community has since stepped up to support the shop during the construction disruption.

City officials told News 12 that the sidewalk in front of the business is expected to reopen by early September, while the full roadway project is slated for completion by early October.
