Authorities stepped up security Sunday for Hoboken's 23rd annual Arts and Music Festival.

The festival usually attracts between 20,000 and 30,000 people, officials said. The increased law enforcement presence comes in the wake of the bombings last week in Seaside Park and New York City.

"Law enforcement has to evolve every day. We have to project what may or may not happen, look at events like this and see where we are soft and make ourselves a harder target," said Capt. Charles Campbell, of the Hoboken Police Department.

Some of the added measures include K-9 patrols, undercover officers, mobile cameras and a raised lookout tower to keep an eye on the event.

The city also locked down its regular trash cans and recycle containers and replaced them with cardboard receptacles.

Hoboken police reiterate that the public can help by remembering the phrase, "If you see something, say something."
