Power outages, water main breaks and car accidents have plagued New Jersey as temperatures dropped to below freezing Sunday night.
Police in Kearny opened up the entrance to the Turnpike at Route 7 after a car accident shut down the road for an hour. Officials say the accident was caused by icy conditions.
In Newark, a tree came down due to high winds and landed on a power line. Residents say they lost power and heat and stayed in their cars while repair crews work on getting power back.
Spotswood Public Works officials had to fix several water main breaks in the area due to the bitter cold. They say they expect more water main breaks before the temperatures become warmer.
