The city is warning swimmers about life-threatening rip currents.
But some swimmers like Catherine say the warning will not stop her from visiting the beach.
“I don’t think nothing of it because I was born in Coney Island, so I know to go up to a certain point and that my feet are touching the floor so that I can get out," said Catherine.
But even experienced swimmers can get into trouble. If you get caught in a rip current, you shouldn't panic. Swim parallel to the shore to get out of it.
NYC Parks officials say to keep an eye out and not go in where sections are red-flagged or there is no lifeguard present. Beachgoers like Salvatore Marceca say he's playing it safe.
“Definitely don’t go too deep in the water. If you stay over here and wet your feet, you'll be OK," said Marceca.
The city says the rip current risks are in effect until Thursday night.
