Two men are in the hospital after a crash in Flatlands Thursday morning, creating a massive scene on Kings Highway.
Police responded to the crash around 9:30 a.m. to a two-car collision. A Jeep was left hanging over a pylon moments after smashing into a BMW that went crashing into a nearby tree.
“If there wasn't a tree there, it would have gone straight through the wall and into the house,” said Bridget Toney.
Toney has lived in Flatlands for more than 35 years, and says she has seen too many crashes. Her doorstep is inches from the highway.
“I told a lady not to allow her kids to ride their bikes here,” she said. “It’s too dangerous.”
The Department of Transportation confirmed to News 12 Kings Highways crashes have led to injuries since 2021. In a statement to News 12, the DOT said the “upcoming capital reconstruction campaign will enhance safety measures along the road.”
Information on what those safety improvements would look like was not immediately available.
