All city pools in
Trenton, including the Hetzel Pool on Olden Avenue, have reopened at
100% capacity for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic.
“It's super
exciting,” says Arelys Chacon, of Trenton. “Everybody was waiting for this.
It's been really hot, so it is exciting.”
Pools will open
for senior swim and instruction at 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., with open swimming
following at 11 a.m. right through 8:30 p.m.
“We are excited,”
says Paul Harris, pool coordinator for the city of Trenton. “We are excited for
Trentonians to be able to come out and enjoy our recreational facilities in the
city of Trenton. Five public swimming pools open at 100% up until Sept. 7.”
The only COVID-19
restrictions still in place is that you are asked when not in the pool to wear
a mask if you're not vaccinated.
The Hetzel Pool recently finished a
multimillion-dollar project, which wrapped up last year concluding an easily
accessible new parking lot and a couple of different splash areas. Millions of dollars have been spent on the five city
pools and Trenton over the years.
“It's really
amazing because we have a place where my brothers and her kids can enjoy the
pool and people don't have to go really far,” says Angie Chan, of Trenton.
“Really convenient for us.”
Mayor Reed
Gusciora celebrated the official kickoff ceremony at noon with a cookout,
welcoming crowds at full capacity.
