WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
What a week it has been on Long Island. Temperatures were breaking records left and right. Temperatures topped out at over 100 degrees to make it the first official heat wave of the season earlier this week.
Then, a cold front passed by Wednesday night into Thursday, cooling temperatures down. Temperatures have been recently in the 60s and 70s. Temperatures, however, will not stay this way for long though. There will be an end to this "summer break" for the weekend as temperatures move back up to seasonal levels.
Saturday starts off with some spotty showers and mostly cloudy skies. Then the skies begin to clear out for the midday hours. The heat and humidity will be felt, but it will be within normal levels for this time of year. By the afternoon to evening hours, a few showers and storms will try to pop up, especially closer to the city.
Later in the day, a cold front will approach the area from the northwest. It will help to kick off showers and storms as it moves through, from west to east. Any storms that pop up will be non-severe but may briefly produce some gusty showers as they move through.
There may be ponding on some roadways, especially low-lying areas, but flooding is not a concern.
Sunday is going to be really nice across the island. Temperatures will be warm, humidity levels will be reduced and there will be a mix of sun and clouds through the day.
Monday into Tuesday, the calendar page flips from June to July and the humidity returns. It will be feeling muggy during those days and there will be a chance for late day showers on Monday.
Tuesday has a threat of showers and storms moving through as another cold front comes by. This will help to reduce the humidity levels for Wednesday.
The Fourth of July is a week away, and so far, it is looking good as a classic summer day comes for the Independence Day holiday.
