With the annual teacher convention, Election Day on Tuesday and Veterans Day being observed on Friday, many schools are on break. And for a lot of families, this means travel and family vacations. This week is a big Disney week also known as Jersey Week — when everyone from the Garden State goes to Walt Disney World.
News 12 New Jersey’s Lauren Due visited Newark Liberty International Airport to catch up with travelers and see what their plans are for vacation.
“We’re going to Iceland. Our kids are off this full week,” said Kate Silva, of Manahawkin. “So, we always take the kids away and this time we decided to do something cold and something a little different."
Dustin De Leon, of Neptune, is headed to Disney and he offered some travel tips.
"Just have fun, honestly. For all the kids that have the week off, just have fun at Disney. Spend all your time at the parks. Make the most of it is what I'm saying," De Leon said.
Derin Lisi, a travel agent, told News 12 New Jersey that many families are leaving the country this week. She said there has been an uptick in vacations booked outside of the country, and many travelers are still booking trips to Disney, Hawaii and cruises.
Lisi also said many people are booking four to five days trips. She said prices are currently very high, however some midweek deals are available.
If you plan on traveling during Jersey Week next year, book a year in advance.
